Jet2 flight delay compensation guide

Understand Jet2 delay and cancellation compensation, the UK261 bands, package-holiday distinctions and claim evidence.

The short answer

A Jet2 flight may qualify for up to £520 per passenger when UK261 applies and the delay, cancellation or denied boarding meets the legal tests.

Flight-only and package-holiday bookings

The passenger-rights claim is normally made against Jet2 as the operating airline. A Jet2holidays booking can also create separate package-holiday rights depending on the wider impact of the disruption.

Keep the flight claim focused on the operating flight, while preserving evidence of any separate hotel or package issue for the organiser.

What Jet2 passengers should record

Save the flight number, booking reference, scheduled arrival and actual arrival. Keep emails, app messages and any written reason provided at the airport.

If you pay for meals or accommodation because care was not supplied, retain itemised receipts. Reasonable expenses can be considered separately from fixed compensation.

Air traffic control and weather explanations

Jet2 serves many airports where weather or wider air traffic disruption can affect multiple airlines. Those events may be extraordinary, but the direct cause of your flight’s delay still needs to be identified.

Ask for a clear explanation rather than relying only on airport rumours. Operational knock-on effects can require a detailed chronology.

UK261 compensation bands

These are the standard fixed amounts for an eligible claim. Cancellation and denied-boarding cases can be reduced when rerouting gets the passenger to the final destination within set time limits.

Flight distanceTypical qualifying delayMaximum fixed amount
Up to 1,500 km3 hours or more at destination£220 per passenger
1,500 to 3,500 km3 hours or more at destination£350 per passenger
Over 3,500 km3 to 4 hours£260 per passenger
Over 3,500 kmMore than 4 hours£520 per passenger

How to prepare a claim

  1. Identify the operating airline, flight number, date and full route.
  2. Keep the booking confirmation, boarding pass and disruption messages.
  3. Record the scheduled and actual final arrival times.
  4. Keep reasonable, itemised receipts for care the airline did not provide.
  5. Ask the operating airline for fixed compensation, expenses and any refund as separate items.

If the airline rejects the claim or takes more than eight weeks to respond, check whether its approved alternative dispute-resolution provider can review the case.

Common questions

Can I claim when Jet2 provided a hotel?

Providing care does not by itself remove a valid fixed compensation claim. The eligibility tests remain separate.

Does my travel agent submit the claim?

The UK261 claim is generally directed to the operating airline, even when an agent sold the booking.
